MASSIVE FAKE NEWS ATTENTION FOR A ‘CONSPIRACY’ REDDIT BOARD BEING BANNED?
WHY ARE WE BEING TARGETED BY SOME OF THE LARGEST MEDIA ORGANIZATIONS ON THE PLANET?
Reddit has finally banned r/greatawakening, the main QAnon subreddit – and then it banned /r/The_GreatAwakening, the backup subreddit where users fled. QAnon, the web of conspiracy theories – which involve Donald Trump, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and politicians and government officials stretching all the way back to Kennedy era – originated on 4chan through Q, an anonymous person purporting to have a high-level security clearance, then quickly spread to Reddit, Facebook, and eventually offline.
QAnon, the pro-Trump Reddit community known for peddling long-disproven conspiracy theories, was banned from the site Wednesday. QAnon became famous for spreading radical conspiracy theories, some then pushed into mainstream media coverage by personalities like Alex Jones and Sean Hannity.
Reddit banned one of its largest communities dedicated to discussion of the Qanon fringe conspiracy theory on Wednesday, citing the subreddit’s repeated violations of the network’s content policy. The community, called /r/GreatAwakening, had more than 71,000 subscribers making over 10,000 comments on average per day before it was banned, NBC News reported.

QAnon, the fringe conspiracy theory community centered around decoding clues from a supposed government insider called Q, has crossed a digital line. At least for Reddit. The online community’s largest QAnon subreddit, r/greatawakening, counting over 70,000 subscribers, was banned from the platform today. The backup for the community, r/the_greatawakening, was also banned.
The bizarre QAnon conspiracy theory that has captured the imagination (and apparel budget) of some reality-challenged Trump supporters is starting to lose its footing. On Wednesday afternoon, Reddit shut down /r/greatawakening, the main subreddit used by Q followers to piece together clues, or “breadcrumbs,” left by the strange internet prophet they follow.
The elaborate conspiracy theory QAnon lost a major rallying center Wednesday when Reddit banned the “Great Awakening” subreddit, citing content policy violations including “inciting violence, harassment, and the dissemination of personal information.” “As of September 12, r/greatawakening has been banned due to repeated violations of the terms of our content policy,” a Reddit spokesperson told The Hill.
Reddit has banned a forum dedicated to the QAnon conspiracy theory, saying users repeatedly violated its content policies. “As of September 12, r/greatawakening has been banned due to repeated violations of the terms of our content policy,” a Reddit spokesperson said in a statement to The Hill.
The theory revolves around a cult-like devotion to Q, an anonymous 4chan poster who has posted cryptic messages claiming Special Counsel lead Robert Mueller is really working on behalf of Donald Trump to expose a conspiracy inside the Democratic Party.
Reddit took down r/GreatAwakening, its popular QAnon subreddit dedicated to the government insider conspirac y popular on the nether reaches of the internet. Breaking (?!?): #QAnon reddit forum r/greatawakening has been pulled down for inciting violence. I guess all those fascism-embracing posts about eliminating and executing enemies were a bit much, even for reddit.

At the time of its removal, the designated subreddit for believers in the QAnon conspiracy theory had over 70,000 subscribers. If you’ve somehow managed to remain blissfully unaware, the QAnon conspiracy is the latest bout of weaponized insanity to emerge from the depths of internet.
Reddit has officially axed one of the main hubs of the QAnon conspiracy theory. Visitors to the r/GreatAwakening subreddit were greeted this afternoon with a ban notice, stating that the forum had been booted “for violations of our Content Policy, specifically inciting violence, harassment, and the dissemination of personal information.”
